Salmon Run
Cascade Orienteering Club has the pleasure of offering you a new map in the Cle Elum area. Salmon la Sac is located 30 minutes north of Cle Elum, and two hours east of Seattle. We will have three days of orienteering events, including the U.S. Middle Distance Orienteering Championships and World Ranking Event. Salmon La Sac forest is in the Cascade mountains containing some of the vegetation of the west side of the mountains, as well as some of the drier habitat of the east side of the mountains. There are hills of all sizes (from knolls to mountains), and many contour and rock features. The trail and road network is moderate to sparse. The area is mostly forested with many small meadows and some logging clearings and thinned areas. Much of the area consists of open or lightly forested linear ridges or hill complexes, often with steep and rocky sides and with some marshes and denser vegetation in between. The mapped area is generally good runnability with a few areas ranging from extremely good to extremely slow.
There is camping within walking distance of the start sites, or assorted accomodations in Cle Elum. An Ice Cream Social is planned for Saturday night to wrap up the week's
events. It will be at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center 719 3rd St, Cle Elum, This is between Teanaway Ave and Yakima Ave. Cle Elum is about half an hour south the Orienteering event site and camping. Plan on bringing your maps and talking about how the week went with your fellow orienteers. The USOF Annual General Meeting will be held right before the social, also at the Center.
