Course Setter Notes

Directions: From I-90 take exit 85 in Cle Elum. Go north across the freeway and head east on highway 970. At junction with Highway 10, keep left and continue on 970 to Teanaway Road. Turn left onto Teanaway Road, and go about 7 miles. At the next main junction, with West Fork Teanaway Road, continue straight on North Fork Teanaway Road for 1.6 miles. There will be a turn-around in the road where it widens on both sides. Park in the turn-around (try to arrange cars efficiently) or along the main road (where safe).

Registration is 9am to 10am with mass start at 10:30am. Expect 15 minute drive from the Interstate, and 10 minute walk to the start/finish/registration area. Toilets are only at the parking, so please use them before walking up to registration. We recommend bringing some water of your own to drink while watching and waiting.

Registration / finding a team: Registration for the relay will take place only on Thursday morning, from 9am – 10am. Turn in one registration form (in the packets) for your entire team. In return, you will receive a bag with special relay bib numbers and punch cards (the relay will be a manual punch event). Please wear your relay bib prominently, so that we correctly record your finish time.

If you don’t have a full team, do not worry! There will be a self-service sign-up board at each day’s registration area where you can sign up and see other people looking for a team. If you don’t have a team by Thursday morning, congregate near the sign-up board and someone will be there matching people up to make teams.

Helping out: If you are bored after (or before) your run, please consider helping the finish crew to check punch cards, calculate times, or post results. Help setting up or putting away equipment would also be appreciated if you like to arrive early or leave late.

Terrain: Lick Creek is a hilly area of runnable forest and small clearings, with a sparse logging road network. Virtually all navigation will be using contours. Although the contours are easy to see, relocation can be difficult with few unique features. It has been a while since the last full survey, so vegetation on the map and terrain often don’t match that well.

Points: Each team is assigned points based on the age (as of Dec 31, 2009) and sex of their runners. There are three award categories for teams: 4-6 points, 7-9 points, and 10+ points. Other than points, there are no other restrictions on the composition of teams; feel free to form teams from multiple clubs and countries.
